Weather & Climate
Dubai has a hot, arid desert climate. The best time to visit is during the winter months, from November to March, when the weather is warm and sunny with lower humidity, making it perfect for outdoor activities. The summer months (June to September) are intensely hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C.
Visa Requirements
UK citizens do not need a visa to enter Dubai for tourist visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival.
Please always check the UK government website for the latest updates before travel.
Spoken Languages
The official language is Arabic, but English is the most widely spoken language due to Dubai's large expatriate population. You will find that English is used in all tourist areas, hotels, and businesses.
Getting Around
Dubai has an excellent public transport system. The driverless Dubai Metro is a modern and efficient way to get around, connecting most of the city's major attractions. You'll need a Nol card to use the metro, tram, and buses. Taxis are plentiful and affordable, and ride-hailing apps like Uber and Careem are also popular.
Currency
The currency is the United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED). While credit cards are widely accepted everywhere, it's always useful to carry some cash for smaller purchases, tipping, or at local markets.
Top 4 Must-See Spots and Activities
Dubai is a city of spectacular sights and experiences
Here are four essentials for your trip:
Ascend the Burj Khalifa
Hold your breath as you travel to the top of the world's tallest building. The Burj Khalifa stands at a staggering 828 metres, and its observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors offer breathtaking, 360-degree views of the city's incredible skyline.
Witness the Dubai Fountain Show
At the foot of the Burj Khalifa, on the lake of the Dubai Mall, is the world's largest choreographed fountain system. Watch in awe as jets of water shoot up to 150 metres in the air, dancing in sync to a backdrop of music and light. The free show runs in the evenings and is a truly magical experience.
Wander the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
Step back in time to Dubai's humble origins in this beautifully preserved historic district. Explore the narrow, winding streets, admire the traditional wind-tower architecture, and visit museums and art galleries that showcase the city’s rich cultural heritage.
Explore The Palm Jumeirah
This incredible man-made, palm-shaped island is a marvel of modern engineering. Drive along the "trunk" to see the extravagant villas and luxury hotels, or take a monorail to the tip to visit the famous Atlantis, The Palm resort and its thrilling waterpark.
4 Unforgettable Experiences to Ignite Your Senses
Beyond the world records and tourist landmarks, these experiences offer a deeper connection to the unique culture and adventurous spirit of Dubai.
Take a Traditional Abra Ride Across Dubai Creek
Escape the modern city for a moment and take a ride on a traditional wooden boat called an abra across Dubai Creek. For a minimal fare, you'll be transported between the bustling districts of Bur Dubai and Deira, passing cargo boats and getting a real feel for the city's historic heart and trading roots.
Embark on an Exhilarating Desert Safari
No trip to Dubai is complete without an adventure in the surrounding desert. Join a desert safari to experience the thrill of "dune bashing" in a 4x4, try sandboarding down the slopes, or ride a camel as the sun sets over the golden dunes. Finish the evening with a traditional Bedouin-style dinner and a live show under the stars.
Indulge in a Shopping Spree at the Souks
While Dubai is famous for its massive modern malls, a visit to the traditional souks is a must. It's a fantastic place to practice your haggling skills and find unique souvenirs.
