Flight Time

Approximately 7 to 11 hours for a direct flight, depending on your destination on the continent.

Weather & Climate

North America's climate is incredibly varied. The best time to visit is during the shoulder seasons of Spring (April to May) and Autumn (September to October), when the weather is pleasant across most of the continent, and the crowds are smaller. Summer (June to August) is peak season, ideal for beach holidays and exploring the national parks, but it can be very hot in some areas. Winter (December to February) brings snow to the north for skiing and snowboarding, and mild weather to the south.

Visa Requirements

UK citizens do not need a visa for short-term tourism to either the USA or Canada. However, you must obtain an electronic travel authorisation before you fly. For the USA, this is an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). For Canada, it is an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization).

Please always check the UK government website for the latest updates before travel.

Spoken Languages

English is the most widely spoken language in both the USA and Canada. In some parts of Canada, particularly Quebec, French is the official language. Spanish is also widely spoken in parts of the USA. As a native English speaker, you won't need to learn any phrases, but knowing a few local terms can be fun!

Getting Around

For long distances, domestic flights are the most efficient option. In both countries, the road network is excellent, making car rental a popular choice for flexibility and exploring. For city travel, many major cities have extensive public transport systems with buses and subways.

Currency

The currency in the USA is the US Dollar (USD), and in Canada it's the Canadian Dollar (CAD). Both are widely accepted in their respective countries. Credit cards are also commonly used, but it's always useful to carry some cash.
